EQ: What if early civilizations didn’t impact our nation today?
Directions:
Give the students ten to twenty minutes at the end of the day to fill out
what they have learned during that day’s lesson. In their journal entry they should make
sure that they meet certain criteria.
They should have in each entry:
- What was something I learned today that I didn’t know before.
- Were did I learn this from (source).
- What was the most interesting thing I learned today.
- 1-2 people I can tell this information when I leave school.
- 5-7 complete sentences.
- Correct grammar and punctuation.
When the class is over have the students turn journals in and look over them to see
what they have learned that day. Make sure that if students are not filling out journals correctly that
you talk to them and correct them so they know what they are doing wrong. These Journals could also
be graded for completion. I would suggest using a check, check +, or check – grading system.
This way the students know how they are doing on a daily basis and what they need to work on.

EQ: What if early civilizations didn’t impact our nation today?
Directions:
Give the students the same pre-assessment questions again.
Once they are done with the 5 questions, give them their first
pre-assessment back. Allow them to see what they have learned
and allow them to see how their answers may have changed. After
they are able to see the pre-assessment, give them a test.
The test should include an even distribution between written and multiple
choice questions. On the test provide a map of Greece and ask several
questions on the map. I would suggest the test be between 10 to 20
questions long with the map and questions included.
